Deftones play at June 23th in Athens 2014, for the Heavy By The Sea festival, alongside Ghost, Behemoth and three of the biggest greek metal bands right now, Nightstalker, Planet of Zeus and Tardive Dyskinesia.
It is the very first time Deftones are visiting Greece and on the occasion of that much-delayed premiere, we at SuperMetal present you the Deftones Playlist, which includes songs from all over their 26-year, 7-album career.
Deftones, originally a band that made its break-through during the nu-metal boom of the late 90s – early 00s, have since made it very clear that they are not your typical nu-metal band. Following the release of the 2000 album White Pony, their music has evolved tremendously and they are now considered pioneers for the alternative metal – experimental rock scene. They are definitely not a one trick (white) pony.
Especially with the release of Diamond Eyes (2010), which followed a very hard period for the band, with the car accident of their original bassist, Chi Cheng that left him in a semi-comatose state for four years before eventually passing away due to a cardiac arrest, they are now at the top of their game and in a very creative place in general. Their consistency is remarkable. I mean, if you look at their discography, since their debut in 1995, they release an LP every 2-3 years and aside from their first attempt, all of them have been a success, both critically and commercially.
And now they are visiting Greece. Even if he is not a dedicated follower, every metal fan who has the opportunity to be there at Heavy By The Sea, must simply be there, if only for the chance to watch a famous metal band at the peak of its form. And the rest of the line-up is not too shabby either…
So, without further ado:
